The North Carolina Aquarium

Roanoke Island Festival Park
Located on a 27-acre island across from the Manteo waterfront, where history comes alive, the “natives” are friendly, art and nature surround you, and there’s big fun for everyone--rain or shine--year round. Through a 16th-century ship, living history, an interactive museum and a variety of performing and visual arts, Festival Park is a celebration of Roanoke Island’s place in history as the birthplace of English-speaking America.

The Historic Whalehead Club
Plan a picnic in the shadows of the Currituck Beach Lighthouse on the grounds of this beautifully restored National Historic landmark.

Wright Brothers National Memorial
Located in the town of Kill Devil Hills, 15 miles northeast of Manteo, NC on US-158.
Exhibits and reproductions of century old gliders and flying machines are on display. A visit should include touring the museum exhibits, participating in a ranger conducted program, touring the reconstructed camp buildings and first flight trail area, and a climb up Kill Devil Hill to view the memorial pylon. The park is open 9am-6pm in the summer and 9am-5pm the rest of the year.

Monteray Plaza Shopping Center
Located in the Food Lion Shopping Center across from Timbuck II on NC 12, also called Ocean Trail. There is a grocery store (Food Lion), a movie theater, more shops, and at least two pizza restaurants.

Timbuck II Shopping Village
Located 1.5 miles south on the main road NC12, also called Ocean Trail. There are "over 60 exciting shops, restaurants, and recreation" at the complex. Several stores have other "branches" along the Outer Banks. Our favorites are the bookstore (has Beanie Babies), the ice cream shop, and Michael's Gems (rocks, beads, rings, seashells).
